LARRY PRICE
Larry Price received his B.S. (’67) and Master’s (’71) from the University of Hawaii-Manoa, his Doctorate from the USC (’85) and Stanford University Graduate School of Business (Executive Management Program (1997 – 2003).
Price is one of Hawaii’s most recognized scholar-athletes. After a story book athletic career (which started as a water boy at Roosevelt High School), he ultimately became a free agent with the Los Angeles Rams. He became University of Hawaii’s first Division I Football Coach. He was named the Honolulu Advertiser’s “Rainbow of the Decade-60’s” and on December 22, 1994, was inducted in the University of Hawaii Sports Circle of Honor. He played in three Hula Bowls and is one of only three players to return as a Head Coach in the Hula Bowl in 1974.
After retiring from the University of Hawaii as Director of the Small Business Management Program, he joined KSSK as Vice President of Public Relations and Publicity. As a television journalist with KITV, he won nine (9) national awards for documentaries which he both wrote and produced. In 1989, he was named “Radio Broadcaster of the Year” by the Hawaii Association of Broadcasters, and in 1992 received the “Media Advocate of the Year”, State of Hawaii and Region IX by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Larry Price’s prestigious awards include: “UH Distinguished Alumni Award” in 1989, the University of Hawaii Circle of Honor in 1996, the U.S. Army Association “Man of the Year Award” in 1991, the Mackey Yanagisawa Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996, the U.S. Army Reserve’s Scholar/Athlete Award in 1997, the Bishop Museum’s Ulupono Leadership Award in 1999, the Sales & Marketing Executives “Salesperson of the Year, 2001, the Scotty Schuman Award by the Honolulu Quarterback Club, 2001 and induction into The Variety Club Walk of Fame, 2002, Roosevelt High School Distinguished Alumni, City & County Centennial - Top 100 Citizen in 2005, HHSAA - Service Award in 2005, and the Earl Galdeira Award for Contribution to Amateur Football Presented by Hawaii Chapter 242 of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame in 2007.
He has written a weekly column for MIDWEEK MAGAZINE since 1985, does color commentary for OIA football on Oceanic Cablevision, and is Professor on Residence, Human Resource Management, MBA Program at Chaminade University of Honolulu, is Chairman of the State of Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame Cybermuseum and President of The OIA Foundation.
Larry Price teamed up with Michael W. Perry in August 1983 to co-host the Perry & Price Show on KSSK’s morning drive show.
Dr. Price’s lifetime memberships include the 4-H Club, Hawaii; University of Hawaii, Manoa; Stanford Business School; University of Southern California and Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society for Business Administration (IPSI Chapter 1999).
